History and Winemaking
Château Pichon Comtesse, a prestigious estate in Pauillac, Bordeaux, ranks as a Second Growth in Bordeaux’s 1855 classification and is part of the esteemed “Super Seconds” group. Located in the southern part of the Pauillac appellation, the charming château stands adjacent to Château Latour and near the border of St Julien. Formerly a single estate, it divided into Château Pichon Comtesse and Château Pichon Baron in 1850. From 1978 to the mid-2000s, the influential Madame May-Eliane de Lencquesaing managed the estate, significantly impacting Bordeaux’s history.
Today, the Rouzaud family, renowned proprietors of Champagne Louis Roederer, own Château Pichon Comtesse. The estate spans 80 hectares of vines, with winemaker Nicolas Glumineau directing operations. He also oversees Château de Pez, a sibling estate in St Estèphe.
