Description
Elegant, fresh, and beautifully structured, Domaine du Valbrun Bois Pivain 2023 is a pure, biodynamic expression of Cabernet Franc from the Saumur-Champigny appellation in the Loire Valley. Deep ruby red with violet reflections, it offers delicate aromas of blackcurrant, raspberry, liquorice, and green bell pepper, leading into a silky and vibrant palate. Aged for 8 months in stainless steel, this wine retains its freshness, purity, and soft tannins, finishing with a smooth, toasty elegance. A fantastic food-friendly red, equally at home with poultry, red meats, or game.
History and Winemaking
Now in its third generation of family ownership, Domaine du Valbrun is one of the Loire Valley’s most exciting biodynamic producers. Based in Saumur, they focus on organic viticulture and biodiversity, crafting wines that truly reflect their terroir and natural purity. The Cabernet Franc vines used for Bois Pivain are 40 years old, rooted in clay-limestone soils, which enhance the wine’s freshness, minerality, and finesse. Hand-harvested and vinified with minimal intervention, this wine is a true reflection of Loire Valley winemaking at its finest.
Tasting Notes
Aromas of blackcurrant, raspberry, liquorice, and a touch of green bell pepper lead into a silky, medium-bodied palate with vibrant acidity and soft, well-integrated tannins. A subtle toasty note lingers on the smooth, refreshing finish.
Pairings
This versatile and elegant Cabernet Franc pairs wonderfully with roast chicken, grilled duck breast, or pan-seared venison. It also complements lightly spiced dishes, mushroom risotto, and aged goat’s cheese, making it a fantastic option for a wide range of meals.
