Description
This vibrant and expressive blend from Swartland combines Chenin Blanc and Grenache Blanc. It bursts with tropical fruit, subtle spice, and a concentrated mid-palate. The wine delivers a rich texture, balanced by a long, juicy finish. It’s the perfect choice for those who love full-flavoured, fruit-driven whites.
History and Winemaking
Klein Kasteelberg gets its name from the stunning Kasteelberg Mountain, which overlooks the fertile Riebeek Valley in Swartland. The region, known for its dry-land vineyards and varied soils, creates the perfect environment for varieties like Chenin Blanc and Grenache Blanc. The team hand-picked the grapes and fermented them separately before blending to highlight each variety’s unique traits. They fermented the wine at low temperatures using only free-run juice and aged it for three months on gross lees to improve texture and depth.
Tasting Notes
The wine opens with lush aromas of ripe pineapple, guava, and stone fruits, with a touch of warm spice. On the palate, the Chenin Blanc and Grenache Blanc offer layers of tropical fruit and citrus. These flavours are balanced by a rich, smooth texture, leading to a juicy, lingering finish.
Pairings
This wine pairs beautifully with grilled seafood, aromatic Thai dishes, and roasted poultry. Its tropical notes and refreshing acidity also make it a great match for creamy cheeses such as Brie or mild goat’s cheese.
