Description

The 2022 Little Bee Sharpham Pinot Gris Orange Wine is a complex and textured ‘orange wine’ made with 100% skin-contact Pinot Gris and produced with minimal intervention. This wine features layered aromas of ruby grapefruit, white strawberry, and orange peel on the nose. The palate offers raspberry and sour stone fruit flavours, supported by soft and grippy tannins, taut acidity, and a long, generous finish.

History and Winemaking

Sharpham Estate, located along the banks of the River Dart in Devon, has been making wine for over 40 years and is renowned for producing some of England’s most outstanding wines. The estate recently moved from its original home on the Sharpham Estate to Sandridge Barton, just south of Stoke Gabriel. The new state-of-the-art winery is spread across 450 acres, making it one of England’s most picturesque vineyards.

The 2022 Little Bee Sharpham Pinot Gris is part of the “Don’t Feed The Ponies” range, a nod to Dartmoor National Park’s campaign to discourage visitors from feeding wild horses. The vineyard benefits from a relatively warm microclimate influenced by the River Dart. The juice spends three weeks on skins before wild fermentation, highlighting the potential for England to develop its own distinctive styles of classic varietals.

Tasting Notes

This orange wine displays a deep orange colour. The nose reveals layered aromas of ruby grapefruit, white strawberry, and orange peel. On the palate, raspberry and sour stone fruit flavours are supported by soft, grippy tannins, and a taut acidity. The wine finishes long and generous, showcasing its complexity and texture.

Food Pairings

Pair the 2022 Little Bee Sharpham Pinot Gris Orange Wine with a variety of dishes. Its complex profile complements roasted poultry, grilled vegetables, and rich seafood dishes. The wine’s acidity and tannins also make it a great match for hearty salads and aged cheeses.
