Description

2023 Montfrin la Tour Rosé from Château de Montfrin is a beautifully soft and aromatic wine that embodies the warmth and charm of southern France. Delicate aromas of vine peach and ripe strawberries mingle with floral notes of jasmine and lily, creating an inviting bouquet. On the palate, this rosé offers a balance of elegance and freshness, with a supple texture and a long, fruit-driven finish. It’s a versatile and approachable wine, perfect for al fresco dining or relaxed evenings with friends.

History and Winemaking

Château de Montfrin, located between Nîmes and Avignon, is a historic estate owned by actor and film producer Jean-René de Fleurieu. The property spans several appellations and is farmed organically, producing both wine and olive oil.

The 2023 Montfrin la Tour Rosé is produced under the lesser-known IGP Côteaux du Pont du Gard, a designation that straddles the Rhône, Languedoc, and Provence regions. The wine is primarily made from the rare Caladoc grape, a cross of Grenache and Malbec, known for yielding ripe and dark-fruited wines. To ensure freshness and finesse, the rosé is fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged on fine lees for a few months, with occasional stirring to enhance its texture and complexity.

Tasting Notes

  • Colour: Pale coral pink with a luminous clarity.
  • Nose: Aromas of vine peach and fresh strawberries, complemented by floral hints of jasmine and lily.
  • Palate: Soft and elegant, with flavours of ripe red berries and a touch of peach. A fresh acidity adds vibrancy, while the finish is smooth and lingering.

Pairings

The 2023 Montfrin la Tour Rosé pairs perfectly with a variety of dishes. Enjoy it with summer salads, grilled fish, or Mediterranean mezze. Its soft fruit and floral profile also make it an excellent companion to creamy cheeses like Burrata or light desserts such as peach tart or strawberry shortcake.
