History and Winemaking
Joseph Perrier is a family-owned Champagne house founded in 1825 in Châlons-en-Champagne. They have remained loyal to the town throughout generations. The Dervin family has been entrusted with crafting Joseph Perrier Champagne for four generations, with Jérôme taking over as cellar master in 2015. The house is deeply connected to the Marne valley vineyard, which recently gained recognition as a World Heritage site. Under Patrick Martin’s management, the vineyard practices sustainable viticulture, including mating disruption.
The house maintains its historical and human touch, with craftsmen working in ancient Gallo-Roman chalk quarries to hand-process each bottle, from riddling to disgorgement. Despite exporting to 45 countries, the production retains a human scale. The cuvées from Joseph Perrier, famously recognised as “Royal” by Queen Victoria and King Edward VII, have contributed to the house’s reputation. Their historical cuvées still bear this designation on their labels, showcasing the rich heritage of the brand.
