Description
Bold, rich, and full of character, Kaesler’s Stonehorse Shiraz is a classic expression of Barossa Valley Shiraz, showcasing deep dark fruit, spice, and velvety tannins. Intensely crimson red, the wine bursts with blackberries, plums, and dark cherries, complemented by hints of pepper, chocolate, and subtle oak. The palate is generous and full-bodied, with layers of ripe fruit, warming spice, and fine tannins, leading to a long, smooth finish. A powerful yet approachable Shiraz, ideal for both immediate drinking and cellaring.
History and Winemaking
Kaesler is one of the Barossa Valley’s most respected wineries, with a rich heritage dating back to 1893. The Stonehorse range celebrates the estate’s old-vine vineyards, many of which are over a century old. Crafted from low-yielding, dry-grown vines, this Shiraz is fermented in open-top fermenters and aged in seasoned oak barrels, allowing the wine to develop complexity while maintaining its pure fruit expression.
Tasting Notes
Aromas of blackberries, plums, and dark cherries, with underlying notes of pepper, cocoa, and a touch of vanilla spice. The palate is rich and full-bodied, featuring ripe black fruit, earthy undertones, and well-integrated oak, with a smooth, lingering finish.
Pairings
This bold Shiraz pairs beautifully with grilled meats, slow-cooked lamb, or barbecued ribs. Its dark fruit and spice also complement hearty stews, aged cheddar, or smoked brisket. A fantastic choice for robust dishes and rich, savoury flavours.
